The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) this week for field offices across Delhi-NCR, covering both completed and ongoing highway stretches under its jurisdiction. The SOP lays out several actions: mechanised road sweeping, covering construction materials during transit, continuous water-sprinkling and use of anti-smog guns at construction sites, planting vegetation along medians using the Miyawaki method, and monitoring of air-quality indices as per the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and pollution control boards. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has announced plans to expand the annual passenger-handling capacity of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) from 10.5 crore to about 12.5 crore by around 2029-30. The development plan includes constructing a new Pier E at Terminal 3, adding more aircraft parking bays, and decongesting Terminal 1. DIAL's management expects the current capacity to reach its limit within the next three to four years. The engineering firm Texmaco Rail & Engineering secured two infrastructure contracts totalling around INR 78 crore. One order of INR 44.61 crore comes from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation for the PCMC-Nigdi elevated extension of the Pune Metro, covering design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a 25 kV flexible overhead catenary system, 33 kV auxiliary sub-station and SCADA systems, to be completed in 110 weeks. The other order of INR 33.89 crore is from Central Railway for the Ahmadnagar-Beed-Parli new broad gauge line involving a 132 kV/55 kV Scott connected transformer system, to be completed in 12 months. Adani Solar has crossed shipments of over 15,000 MW of solar modules across India and international markets. Out of this, 10,000 MW were deployed within the country and 5,000 MW exported overseas, with 70 percent made using India-manufactured solar cells. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a INR 48.33 crore contract with Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt Ltd to install an anti-drag passenger door safety system across all 52 trains operating under Phase I. The system enhances existing obstacle-detection technology by identifying thin or light materials such as saree ends, dupattas, bag straps, and belts that could get trapped during door closure. If entrapment occurs, it will trigger an emergency brake and alert the driver instantly. CMRL clarified that this initiative is a preventive safety upgrade, not incident-driven. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reported savings of about INR 2,062 crore in toll-collection expenses during the last financial year. The cost of collection dropped from 17.27% to 9.27%, supported by reforms in contract management and improved monitoring.
