Synopsis

The Gorakhpur-Pilibhit Express has now been extended to Izzatnagar in Bareilly, strengthening rail connectivity across eastern and northern Uttar Pradesh. The extension was launched virtually by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw along with Minister of State Jitin Prasada. Officials said the new link will support commuters, farmers, students, and traders across the Terai region. The service, which earlier operated only up to Pilibhit, will now run on a longer route but will discontinue its earlier stretch between Daliganj Junction and Lucknow Junction. The move aligns with ongoing railway upgrades across the state.

The Gorakhpur-Pilibhit Express has been extended further to Izzatnagar in Bareilly, expanding its reach across the Terai region and improving connectivity between eastern and northern Uttar Pradesh. The formal launch took place through a virtual flag-off by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, accompanied by Minister of State Jitin Prasada. Officials noted that the extension was planned to meet a steady public demand from the area.

The train, numbered 15009/15010, had earlier been operating only between Gorakhpur and Pilibhit after being extended to Pilibhit in recent months. With the latest addition of Bareilly (Izzatnagar), the service will now cater to a wider passenger base across districts that depend heavily on regular rail transport for work, education, agriculture, and small-scale trade.

Authorities said the longer route will support the movement of agricultural and forest produce, which is a key economic activity in the Terai belt. The extension is also expected to offer more convenience to students and daily travellers who rely on affordable transport options.

During the launch, Vaishnaw mentioned that Uttar Pradesh has seen major improvements in rail infrastructure over the past several years. These include more than 5,272 km of new railway tracks, full network electrification, construction of 1,660 flyovers and underpasses, Wi-Fi availability at 771 stations, and the introduction of services such as Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express trains. He conveyed that such upgrades aim to strengthen connectivity across smaller towns and larger cities.

Prasada added that the new extension will help commuters across Pilibhit, Bareilly, and adjoining regions. He also referred to the ongoing Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which 152 stations in Uttar Pradesh are being modernised. Ten major stations in western Uttar Pradesh have recently reopened after redevelopment.

With this extension, the train will no longer operate on its previous route segment between Daliganj Junction and Lucknow Junction. Regular services began on the Gorakhpur end earlier in the week, while the train began operating from the Izzatnagar end the following day, as per the schedule announced at the time of approval.
