Kolkata Metro has announced extended weekday operations on the Purple Line, increasing services from 80 to 84 and expanding operating hours from 6.40 am to 9.26 pm. The first train will depart Joka at 6.40 am and Majherhat at 7.03 am, with the last trains leaving at 9.05 pm and 9.26 pm respectively. Officials said the earlier start and later close will benefit commuters using Eastern Railway's Majherhat station by improving interchange options. Weekend timings remain unchanged, with services running only on Saturdays. The 7.75-km Joka-Majherhat stretch will eventually connect to Esplanade, where the Purple Line will integrate with the Blue and Green lines to enhance central Kolkata's connectivity.

The operator noted that weekday services would increase to 84 from the earlier 80. Officials remarked that this enhancement would directly benefit those relying on local train connections at Eastern Railway's Majherhat station, improving interchange convenience.
Kolkata Metro further mentioned that, starting later this week, the first train would leave Joka at 6.40 am, while the first departure from Majherhat would be at 7.03 am. The final services would operate from Joka at 9.05 pm and from Majherhat at 9.26 pm.
Metro authorities also reiterated that weekend operations remain unchanged. Services on the 7.75-km route were introduced on Saturdays earlier this past week, while the line continues to remain non-operational on Sundays.
The Purple Line is intended to eventually offer a seamless link from Joka to Esplanade. Construction is currently progressing across the remaining stretch, and once completed, the corridor will integrate with the existing Blue and Green lines at Esplanade, strengthening multimodal connectivity in central Kolkata.
