The order aims to strengthen transparency and reduce the volume of individual RTI requests.Read more
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced significant stamp duty and registration fee concessions for lease agreements up to ten years to encourage formal registration and reduce disputes. The cabinet cleared the proposal earlier this week. Many tenancy agreements remain unregistered due to high costs, leaving them legally vulnerable and open to recovery actions by authorities. The new provisions set a ceiling of INR 10 lakh for average annual rent in calculating stamp duty and exclude toll-related and mining leases. This move simplifies registration and ensures better legal compliance for landlords and tenants.Read more

The Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) introduced a stricter quarterly progress-report (QPR) format for all its registered real-estate agents. The change comes after a central audit revealed that many agent filings were incomplete and lacked sufficient detail. These reporting norms will apply from the quarter ending December 2025. ORERA has warned of penalties for non-compliance.Read more
The Delhi government has removed a long-standing policy that barred power supply to properties booked by the Municipal Corporation (MCD) for unauthorised construction. Under the revised rule, electricity distributors (DISCOMs) can no longer refuse or cut power simply because a property is 'booked.' Connections can only be denied when MCD formally notifies that the building is under demolition or sealing. This change, approved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to benefit over 1.25 lakh households across the city.Read more
The Housing and Urban Development Department has rejected an appeal by a promoter and home-buyers against the Bhubaneswar Development Authority's order to demolish an unauthorised five-storey residential building in Andilo, Balianta. Officials found that the structure was built without mandatory NOCs or planning approvals, relying instead on an outdated gram panchayat layout predating BDA jurisdiction. A legal dispute between the landowners and promoter further complicated the case, as the owners had revoked the power of attorney. Despite the violations, units had been sold and rented out. Authorities have ordered all occupants to vacate, with demolition costs to be recovered from the promoter and landowners, reinforcing strict action against illegal construction.Read more

Authorities in Gurugram have directed RWAs and developers to restore all non-functional rainwater harvesting systems in housing societies within six weeks, following inspections that revealed most recharge pits were poorly maintained. RWAs must submit proof of proper functioning by the end of December, after which officials will conduct random checks to verify compliance. With rainwater harvesting mandatory for group housing, institutions, hotels and industries, officials stressed that effective recharge systems are vital for a city facing frequent waterlogging and declining groundwater levels. They noted that well-maintained pits can significantly improve stormwater absorption. The directive reflects a renewed push to strengthen water management and ensure long-term urban sustainability.Read more
