The Maharashtra government has moved to convert the 6.4-hectare seafront Worli Dairy plot in Mumbai for commercial use. On September 25, the Urban Development Department issued a notification reclassifying the land under DCPR 2034 from residential to commercial, while inviting public objections. The long-unused site-housing the defunct government dairy, staff quarters, and commissioner's office-had earlier been earmarked for research or civic projects. In January 2024, the MMRDA sought control to redevelop the land as a mixed-use node, with CM Devendra Fadnavis approving draft proposals this April. Property registrations in the Mumbai municipal region rose significantly during the past month, driven by strong festive demand. According to Knight Frank India, the city recorded 12,070 property registrations, representing a 32 per cent year-on-year increase compared with the same period last year.
