The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to launch a city-wide AI-driven property survey across all ten zones-its first since 2016-to improve property tax accuracy and address inefficiencies in manual record updates. A pilot in Laxmi Nagar revealed 2,000 new properties and 7,000 with unrecorded structural or usage changes, highlighting gaps in the existing system. The new survey will focus solely on built-up properties, combining AI mapping with door-to-door verification to assess real-time changes. With property tax arrears exceeding INR 900 crore, the initiative aims to enhance revenue, ensure fair valuations, and promote transparency in urban governance. The survey rollout is expected early next financial year.Read more
The Karnataka Chief Secretary chaired a meeting with K-RERA and state police officials to plan coordinated enforcement against non-compliant developers. Under the initiative, police stations will assist in serving recovery notices and executing RERA orders to recover around INR 750 crore in unpaid penalties and compensations. The move addresses long-standing grievances from home-buyers awaiting refunds or possession. A recovery cell had previously been formed under the revenue department, but progress was slow due to procedural delays. Police involvement is expected to streamline enforcement, strengthen regulatory compliance, and send a clear signal that non-adherence to RERA orders will invite strict action, reinforcing transparency in Karnataka's real estate sector.Read more

The Bombay High Court has overturned the de-registration of a Borivli West housing society federation, ordering restoration of its registration under the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act. The federation, registered in January 2018, had been de-registered following an appeal filed in April 2025-almost seven years later-by another society claiming ignorance of its registration. However, the federation presented evidence showing that the appellant society had earlier applied for membership, proving prior knowledge. Justice Amit Borkar ruled that false claims cannot justify condonation of delay, quashing the registrar's order. The court stressed that statutory authorities must act within the law, reinforcing accountability and truthfulness in cooperative society proceedings across Maharashtra.Read more

In a landmark judgment, the Telangana Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (TREAT) set aside a penalty imposed on Sanali Housing Projects Pvt. Ltd., ruling that the Telangana RERA Authority had exceeded its jurisdiction. The case, involving the Sanali Pinnacle project in Shaikpet, Hyderabad, arose from a dispute with the family of Mohammed Mushtaq, who had entered a joint development agreement with the developer. The Tribunal held that landowners in such projects are co-promoters under the RERA Act and therefore cannot file complaints as aggrieved parties. It also clarified that name boards or project listings without sales information do not constitute advertising. The INR 4.27 lakh penalty was quashed, and a refund ordered.Read more

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the Mizoram government to lodge a new, detailed report on solid and liquid waste management after finding serious deficiencies in an earlier submission. The previous report did not carry certification by a senior state official, and lacked timelines, fund allocations, executing-agency details and clear data on door-to-door segregated collection. It found that Mizoram generates about 398.15 tonnes of solid waste per day, of which 67.65 tonnes remain unprocessed, and produces 51.81 million litres per day of sewage while treatment capacity is much lower. The NGT asked for a revised Action Taken Report (ATR) that covers generation, collection, processing gaps, fund allocation and timelines, with a filing due ahead of the next hearing.Read more
The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) has amended its Disposal of Land Rules, 1979, allowing industrial plots to be converted for commercial, residential, institutional, or mixed-use purposes. Under the revised norms, conversions to commercial use will be charged at twice the industrial rate, while residential or institutional conversions will cost 1.5 times, and mixed-use the highest applicable rate. In contrast, conversions from commercial to industrial or residential use will incur just 0.10 times the industrial rate. While the policy encourages flexible urban development, officials caution that low conversion fees could spur speculation and reduce revenue. Transparency and fair valuation will be key to sustainable implementation.Read more
