In Jamshedpur, the Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has taken a firmer line than in the past. The committee recently sealed two under-construction buildings in the Dhatkidih area after finding that work continued despite previous notices. The action was ordered by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, and team leaders said that further map-violation inspections would not be tolerated.
This intensified scrutiny is not entirely new: earlier, JNAC sealed four buildings in the Sonari area, where owners were found constructing more floors than permitted by the approved plans. In past reviews, officials also flagged misuse of basement spaces - often meant for parking - for commercial purposes.
By tightening the noose now - combining surprise inspections, citizen engagement, and clear punitive measures - authorities appear determined to shift from selective crackdowns to sustained, systemic regulation across both cities.
