Municipal authorities in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad have launched a coordinated enforcement drive to clamp down on illegal constructions that deviate from approved building plans. A special squad will carry out random inspections, and offenders face possible demolition and hefty fines. Local residents are being urged to report suspect activity. The campaign builds on a history of selective enforcement and misused basements in Jamshedpur, signalling a tougher, more systematic regulatory phase.
Municipal authorities in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad have ramped up action against unauthorised construction, especially buildings that stray from approved blueprints. The crackdown features a dedicated enforcement squad carrying out random inspections, aimed at identifying and penalising non-compliant structures with demolition or fines.
Officials are also calling on residents to play an active role by reporting any suspected irregularities - a sign that civic agencies want to boost community participation in enforcing building norms.
In Jamshedpur, the Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has taken a firmer line than in the past. The committee recently sealed two under-construction buildings in the Dhatkidih area after finding that work continued despite previous notices. The action was ordered by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, and team leaders said that further map-violation inspections would not be tolerated.
This intensified scrutiny is not entirely new: earlier, JNAC sealed four buildings in the Sonari area, where owners were found constructing more floors than permitted by the approved plans. In past reviews, officials also flagged misuse of basement spaces - often meant for parking - for commercial purposes.
By tightening the noose now - combining surprise inspections, citizen engagement, and clear punitive measures - authorities appear determined to shift from selective crackdowns to sustained, systemic regulation across both cities.
