Nagpur sees 28% rise in property tax collections after rebate scheme rollout

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has seen a 28% jump in property tax collections this financial year, thanks to a rebate scheme encouraging early payments. By June 11, NMC collected INR 45.33 crore from 1.16 lakh property owners-up from INR 35.47 crore and 85,581 taxpayers in the same period last year. The scheme offers a 15% discount for online payments and 10% for offline ones made by June 30. Reduced rebates apply for payments until December 31. Laxmi Nagar zone led collections, while zones like Dhantoli and Gandhibagh lagged slightly. The increased revenue will help NMC strengthen city services and meet its annual tax targets.Read more

Stalled Amrapali project sparks fresh protests over NBCC's flat allocation practices

Frustrated homebuyers from the stalled Amrapali housing projects staged a protest last weekend against NBCC, the government-backed firm assigned by the Supreme Court to complete the unfinished developments. The protestors allege that their allotted flats were unjustly withdrawn over delayed payments and then handed over to private developers at discounted rates-without due process or a chance to explain their circumstances. Feeling betrayed, the buyers are now urging the Supreme Court to investigate these claims, reigniting concerns around fairness and transparency in one of India's most high-profile stalled housing crises. A detailed hearing is expected soon.Read more

Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025 aims for 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030

The Maharashtra government has unveiled its new 2025 housing policy, Majhe Ghar, Majha Adhikar (My Home, My Right), its first major update since 2007. The policy promises over 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030 with a INR 70,000 crore investment. It focuses on sustainability, inclusive development, and private sector participation. Special housing plans target vulnerable groups like seniors, women, students, and migrant workers. A district-level survey is underway to align supply with real demand. The policy also supports self-redevelopment, slum renewal, and green construction. With a digital land bank and centralised tracking platform in the works, this ambitious policy aims to make housing more accessible, equitable, and future-ready across Maharashtra.Read more

Mumbai Infrastructure: BMC to build new GMLR flyover arms for direct link to Sion-Panvel Highway

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved construction of two new arms to connect the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) flyover directly to the Sion-Panvel Highway. Estimated at INR 1,051 crore, the project aims to ease traffic congestion at the busy Maharashtra Nagar T-junction. Currently, the GMLR flyover lacks a direct link to the highway, forcing vehicles through bottlenecks. The new flyover arms-measuring 1.47 km and 1.93 km-will bypass this signal, offering seamless access. The extensions, standing 8.5 metres high and 620 metres long, will begin construction soon following land acquisition and approvals from the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Mangroves Department. The alignment also considers proximity to metro lines and nearby airports. An earlier plan for a third arm via the Harbour line remains stalled due to pending clearances from Central Railway.Read more

DDA clears over 300 structures in Govindpuri for slum rehabilitation project

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has demolished over 300 structures in Bhoomiheen Camp, Govindpuri, South Delhi, as part of a planned in-situ slum rehabilitation project. Most of the razed constructions were reportedly vacant, with the land under encroachment for the past 2.5 years. The cleared site will be used to build permanent housing for approximately 4,500 JJ (jhuggi-jhopri) dwellers from nearby Navjeevan and Jawahar Camps. This follows an earlier relocation of 1,862 eligible households from Bhoomiheen Camp to flats in Kalkaji Extension between November 2022 and May 2023, based on Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) guidelines. The initiative aligns with the Delhi government's 'Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makan' policy, which ensures alternative housing before removing informal settlements, promoting a more humane and systematic urban redevelopment approach.Read more

AP RERA warns homebuyers against unregistered flats and plots in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (APRERA) has issued a public advisory cautioning homebuyers against purchasing unregistered flats and plots. In-charge chairman S Suresh Kumar highlighted growing concerns over developers collecting advance payments for 'pre-launch' projects without mandatory APRERA registration-an act that violates the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Under the law, no real estate project can be marketed, advertised, or sold without proper registration, and agents are also prohibited from promoting unregistered properties. APRERA has urged buyers to verify project details through its official helpdesk and report any issues like delays or poor construction quality. The warning reinforces the authority's consumer protection mandate under RERA, which was enacted in 2017 to bring transparency, accountability, and legal safeguards to India's real estate market.Read more

Telangana RERA directs Prime Infratech to form allottees' association within 45 days

The Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TG-RERA) has ordered Prime Infratech, developer of the Prime Alpenia villa project near Mokila, to form and register an official allottees' association within 45 days. The directive follows a complaint by villa owner Budi Venkata Ramana, who alleged ongoing harassment and illegal fund collection due to the absence of a registered association. TG-RERA cited the developer's non-compliance with Section 11(4)(e) of the RERA Act, 2016, which mandates the creation of such a body. The authority also clarified that maintenance charges are legally applicable from the date of possession, regardless of occupancy. While disputes among residents fall outside TG-RERA's jurisdiction, affected parties may approach the Telangana Co-operative Department. The order reinforces the importance of structured community governance for transparent maintenance and shared responsibility in post-handover real estate developments.Read more

The real cost of buying property in Dubai: Hidden fees investors overlook

Many first-time property investors in Dubai unknowingly lose over USD 20,000 at the start due to hidden fees. A flat listed at USD 295,000 can actually cost USD 318,000 after factoring in Dubai Land Department taxes, agent commissions, legal fees, and furnishing expenses. Often overlooked, these predictable costs reduce real ROI from 10% to 7.5%. Even 'ready' homes may lack basic fittings, pushing costs higher. Experts suggest negotiating during launch phases, targeting distressed sales, and leveraging seasonal offers to save up to USD 30,000. With precise planning and transparent advisors, buyers can avoid costly surprises and maximise their investment returns.Read more

Prestige Estates Projects Ltd has established a sales target of INR 27,000 crore for the ongoing fiscal year, marking a 59% rise from the previous year, despite missing its earlier projection due to regulatory hurdles.
