Synopsis

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has seen a 28% jump in property tax collections this financial year, thanks to a rebate scheme encouraging early payments. By June 11, NMC collected INR 45.33 crore from 1.16 lakh property owners-up from INR 35.47 crore and 85,581 taxpayers in the same period last year. The scheme offers a 15% discount for online payments and 10% for offline ones made by June 30. Reduced rebates apply for payments until December 31. Laxmi Nagar zone led collections, while zones like Dhantoli and Gandhibagh lagged slightly. The increased revenue will help NMC strengthen city services and meet its annual tax targets.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has observed a significant increase in its property tax collections during the current financial year. This positive trend is a direct result of a recently introduced rebate scheme, designed to encourage early payments with various discounts across Nagpur city.

In the first two and a half months of the current financial year, the scheme led to a 28% rise in collected funds. By June 11, the NMC had gathered INR 45.33 crore from 1.16 lakh property owners for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This marks a clear improvement from the same period last year, when collections stood at INR 35.47 crore from 85,581 taxpayers.

The rebate structure offers a 15% discount for online payments made before June 30, and a 10% discount for offline payments received by the same date. For payments made online after June 30 but by December 31, a 10% rebate is still available, while offline payments in that later period receive a 5% discount.

Laxmi Nagar zone has shown the strongest performance, recording the highest number of taxpayers and leading in revenue generation. While most areas responded well, some, like the Dhantoli zone, saw only a small rise in properties paying taxes and a slight dip in total collection. The Gandhibagh zone also showed slower growth. Property tax is a vital source of income for city governments, helping to fund essential services. The NMC hopes this good start will help it reach its yearly property tax goal, making its financial situation healthier and allowing for better public services.
