Synopsis

Digital Connexion is set to invest USD 11 billion, around INR 98,000 crore, to build 1 Gigawatt of AI-native data centres in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, covering 400 acres. The facilities are purpose-built for AI workloads, featuring high-density racks, redundant power feeds, and robust substations to ensure reliable operations over the next decade. The project follows Google's USD 15 billion AI hub announcement in the state. Digital Connexion also operates in Chennai and is constructing a Mumbai campus, emphasizing low-latency, carrier-neutral connectivity and strategic digital infrastructure expansion.

Digital Connexion, a joint venture between Brookfield, Reliance Industries, and US-based Digital Realty, announced that it will invest USD 11 billion, approximately INR 98,000 crore, by 2030 to develop 1 Gigawatt of AI-native, purpose-built data centres in Andhra Pradesh. The new facilities will be established on a 400-acre campus in Visakhapatnam, designed to handle advanced AI workloads and offer hyperscalers and enterprises robust, future-ready infrastructure.

The investment follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, ensuring collaboration with the state for smooth project execution. The data centres will include high-density racks, redundant power feeds, and robust substations, providing reliable operations and supporting technological growth over the next decade. The design is focused on AI-native applications, enabling seamless integration of artificial intelligence systems and future technological upgrades.

This is the company's second major project in India, following Google's recent commitment of USD 15 billion for establishing an AI hub and data centres in Visakhapatnam. Digital Connexion already operates a campus in Chennai and is constructing another facility in Mumbai's Chandivali area. Both locations are chosen for strategic, low-latency, carrier-neutral connectivity, ensuring faster data transfer and efficient operations for enterprises and hyperscalers across India.

By expanding its data centre presence, Digital Connexion reinforces India's position as a growing hub for digital infrastructure and AI technology. The new Visakhapatnam project aligns with global trends in AI and cloud computing while supporting local economic development and employment opportunities.
