Synopsis

East Central Railway is planning smart parking hubs at six stations in the Danapur division, with a total capacity for 21,500 vehicles. Stations like Patna Junction and Danapur will have capacities ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 vehicles. The DPR, currently in preparation, includes modern amenities such as air-conditioned vending halls, escalators, lifts, WiFi, digital payments, real-time tracking, and CCTV surveillance. The initiative aims to address growing passenger and vehicle traffic, reduce congestion near stations, and provide organised, safer, and convenient parking solutions.

The East Central Railway (ECR) has announced plans to develop smart parking hubs at six major stations in its Danapur division. The project aims to accommodate around 21,500 vehicles across these stations, helping manage the growing number of passengers and vehicles in the region. The proposed capacities include Patna Junction - 6,000 vehicles; Danapur - 5,000; Patliputra Junction - 4,000; Rajendra Nagar Terminal - 3,000; Bakhtiyarpur - 2,000; and Mokama - 1,500.

ECR officials have stated that a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared to finalise the design, layout, and infrastructure requirements. Once approved, the smart parking hubs will feature modern amenities such as air?conditioned vending halls, escalators, lifts, WiFi connectivity, digital payment facilities, real?time vehicle tracking systems, and enhanced CCTV surveillance. These features are intended to improve passenger convenience, security, and the overall parking experience.

The initiative responds to population growth and increased passenger traffic in Patna and nearby districts, which has put pressure on existing parking and traffic management around stations. The smart hubs are expected to streamline vehicle flow, reduce roadside congestion, and offer organised, safer parking facilities.

Construction is expected to begin once the DPR is finalised and approved by the Railway Board. This project reflects ECR's commitment to modernising station infrastructure to match growing commuter needs and urban mobility challenges.
