Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis has laid out a plan for all significant infrastructure projects in Mumbai to be completed by 2032, aiming for full city transformation within five to seven years. He emphasised work on sea-link extensions, new tunnels, free-flow bridges, and link roads to reduce congestion on the Western Express Highway. The metro network is to be built within five years, while public transport will be electrified. Sewage treatment upgrades and green zones in Dharavi form part of his wider environmental goals.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Mumbai's major infrastructure initiatives will be completed by 2032. He said these efforts are being fast-tracked to relieve congestion across the city.
He identified several projects aimed at boosting east-west and north-south connectivity. These include extending the sea link up to Versova-Dahisar-Bhayander, building new link roads from Dahisar, installing free-flow bridges, and constructing multiple tunnel projects. At present, he noted, about 60 per cent of the city's traffic moves on the Western Express Highway, making these alternate routes crucial.
Among the tunnel plans, Fadnavis pointed to connections between the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and other parts of Mumbai, and to new elevated link roads over the expressway. He claimed these developments would help make Mumbai 'completely tunnelled' and drastically boost average travel speeds.
On the public transport front, the CM said the entire metro network will be built in the next five years. He also spoke about electrifying Mumbai's transport system, with the goal of pushing public transport toward zero emissions.
He addressed environmental infrastructure too, saying that sewage treatment plants will be upgraded so only treated water is discharged into the sea. He expects this work to be completed in the coming year.In the Dharavi redevelopment project, Fadnavis said that about 30 per cent of the area will be preserved as green zones.
In civic politics, the CM revealed that 40 per cent of his party's civic ward candidates will be under 35 years old. He urged young people to vote and participate in politics to bring about change, rather than just criticise. He argued that just talking about corruption is not enough numbers are needed to replace problematic leaders.
Fadnavis also warned against an 'anarchist mindset,' saying constructive participation is more effective. He added that even those with varied political ideologies should come together on common issues and work within institutions. He further instructed government officials to complete 30 infrastructure projects within three years, warning that they should not continue for years without progress. He asked that each project's status be tracked on the CM Dashboard so that delays can be fixed fast.
