The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched a logistics training centre at the National Skill Training Institute in Hyderabad to meet rising workforce requirements in the logistics industry. The centre includes simulation labs for truck-driving, warehouse activities and forklift operations, supported by a curriculum created with the Logistics Sector Skill Council and industry partners. The model builds on a pilot that began in Chennai in January 2024. The initiative is part of MSDE's broader plan to strengthen sector-specific training in line with the National Logistics Policy and PM Gati Shakti.
A new Centre of Logistics Training for Excellence has been set up at the National Skill Training Institute in Hyderabad by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The facility is designed to support the growing manpower needs of India's logistics sector, which is expanding with ongoing infrastructure development and increased adoption of digital systems.
At the launch, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, who also serves as Minister of State for Education, said the logistics sector is entering a period of steady growth supported by the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti programme. He stated that this growth will need a trained workforce familiar with new processes, digital systems and technology-driven logistics operations. He noted that centres like this represent the type of skilling ecosystem required for future supply-chain needs.
The Hyderabad facility is equipped with simulation-based labs for truck-driving, warehouse operations and forklift management. MSDE said the curriculum has been jointly developed by the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC) and industry stakeholders to ensure training remains closely aligned with real operational standards. The ministry added that the centre will help improve youth employability in Telangana and support labor demand across regional logistics hubs.
The centre has been established by the Redington Foundation, the CSR arm of Redington Ltd, in partnership with the LSC. Redington's Global Chief Sustainability Officer said the Hyderabad model builds directly on the pilot launched in Chennai in January 2024. He explained that the Chennai programme showed strong industry participation, better job preparedness among trainees and improved alignment with market requirements. These outcomes encouraged the expansion of the model. He also stated that the Hyderabad centre will include digital learning modules and industry-ready simulation tools.
MSDE stated that this initiative fits within its broader plan to advance sector-specific Centres of Excellence for skilling. The ministry has previously supported skill programmes across logistics, retail and manufacturing, but the Hyderabad centre stands out because of its deeper integration of simulation technology and updated industry-led course content. The focus on hands-on learning is expected to help trainees adjust to changing logistics systems, including automated warehouses, multimodal transport planning and digitised operational tracking.
The centre is also aligned with national goals to improve supply-chain efficiency and reduce logistics costs. With continued investment in roads, ports, airports and freight networks, the demand for skilled workers is expected to rise steadily. The Hyderabad centre aims to contribute to this requirement by offering structured, practical training and improving the readiness of new entrants to the logistics job market.
