Synopsis

NTPC Renewable Energy has started commercial supply from 75.50 MW of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I solar PV project in Gujarat, raising the NTPC group's total installed capacity to 84,924 MW. The project, part of the CPSU scheme Phase-II Tranche-III, is being executed through NTPC Green Energy Ltd, with supply starting November 19, 2025. Earlier this month, NTPC increased its installed capacity targets to 149 GW by 2032 and 244 GW by 2037. The move strengthens India's renewable energy growth and supports sustainable power expansion.

NTPC's step-down subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy, has started commercial supply of electricity from 75.50 MW of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I solar PV project in Gujarat. This development increases the NTPC group's total installed and commercial capacity to 84,924 MW, according to a regulatory filing.

The commercial operation of this portion of the Khavda-I project, under the CPSU scheme Phase-II Tranche-III, is being carried out through NTPC Green Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC Renewable Energy. The electricity supply officially began on November 19, 2025, marking the first phase of the project becoming operational.

The Khavda-I project is part of NTPC's larger renewable energy expansion plan. Earlier this month, the company announced revised long-term generation capacity targets, raising its goal from 130 GW to 149 GW by 2032 and further to 244 GW by 2037. The new targets reflect NTPC's continued focus on renewable energy and its efforts to strengthen India's clean energy infrastructure.

This development comes amid increasing emphasis on solar energy in Gujarat, which has been emerging as a major hub for solar power due to its high solar irradiance and supportive policy environment. NTPC's investment in the Khavda-I project highlights its commitment to scaling up renewable energy capacity in line with national goals and addressing growing energy demands sustainably.
