Delhi Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta announced updated names for three metro stations in the Pitampura-Haiderpur belt as part of the Phase IV expansion of the Delhi Metro network. The existing Pitampura station will be renamed Madhuban Chowk, the upcoming QU Block station will be North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, and the planned Pitampura North station will be called Haiderpur Village. She said the changes are intended to make travel easier and more locally relevant. The announcement was made during a yatra held to honour the Rezang La battle martyrs. Alongside the renaming, she also reviewed ongoing area-wide road and underpass works.
Delhi Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta has approved updated names for three metro stations in the Pitampura and Haiderpur stretch under the Delhi Metro's Phase IV expansion. The existing Pitampura station will now be known as Madhuban Chowk Metro Station. This change was announced during the Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra held in Haiderpur village, a programme conducted to honour the martyrs of the Rezang La battle.
The under-construction QU Block station, earlier referred to as North Pitampura, will take the name North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station. Another proposed station, earlier called Pitampura North, will be renamed Haiderpur Village Metro Station. Gupta said these names are aligned with the areas the stations actually serve, making it easier for commuters to identify locations without confusion.
She also spoke about the ongoing infrastructure work in the region. Max Hospital Road is currently being widened, and an underpass is being built to ease traffic movement and improve safety for pedestrians and motorists. According to her, these upgrades are part of coordinated efforts to improve connectivity in the wider Pitampura-Haiderpur zone.
The Delhi Metro's Phase IV project includes several priority corridors, such as the RK Ashram Marg-Janakpuri West line and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad line. These corridors have been under construction since before the pandemic, although progress slowed at times due to restrictions and approvals related to land and tree removal. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been working toward opening the priority stretches by 2026, which will add new interchange points and extend connectivity deeper into north-west and south Delhi.
Renaming is not new for the metro network. In an earlier instance, the HUDA City Centre station in Gurugram was retitled Millennium City Centre to better match the commonly used name. The latest changes in Pitampura follow a similar approach, focusing on clarity, neighbourhood recognition, and ease of navigation for daily commuters.
