Mumbai Port Authority has approved a INR 470?crore yacht marina at Cross Island, near Princess and Victoria Docks. Built on an EPC model, the project includes dredging, breakwaters, access roads, parking, and visitor facilities. A private operator will manage the marina under a 45?year concession and invest INR 417.37?crore to develop onshore facilities like repair yards, clubhouse, hotel, and restaurants over 4.2 hectares. Developed in three phases, the marina will accommodate more than 600 yachts, offering safe berthing, maintenance, and refuelling services, and enhancing Mumbai’s waterfront infrastructure.
Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) has unveiled plans to develop a modern yacht marina at Cross Island, near Princess and Victoria Docks. The project, costing INR 470?crore, will be executed on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. It will include major offshore works such as breakwaters, dredging, and construction of an access road linking the shore to the marina, along with parking and basic visitor amenities. This development aims to strengthen Mumbai’s position as a key maritime and leisure hub.
A private operator will manage the marina under a 45?year concession. The same operator will invest an additional INR 417.37?crore to develop onshore infrastructure across 4.2 hectares. Facilities will include a yacht repair yard, clubhouse, hotel, restaurant, and commercial spaces to serve marina visitors and yacht owners.
The marina will be developed in three phases. The first phase will provide berthing for 424 yachts along with onshore facilities. The second phase will add capacity for 172 more yachts, while the final phase will accommodate eight super-yachts. Waterside infrastructure will feature an approach trestle, breakwaters, berthing pontoons, gangways, and mooring bollards built on reclaimed land. The project also includes a dedicated yacht fuel station, addressing a long-standing need in the city.
Mumbai currently lacks a structured marina despite a growing number of private yachts. Around 200 small leisure boats are moored near the Gateway of India, often using slipways or tenders for boarding, maintenance, and refuelling. The new Cross Island marina aims to provide safe berthing, convenient maintenance, and refuelling facilities, improving the overall experience for yacht owners and visitors.
Officials from MbPA highlighted that the marina could become a landmark in India’s maritime infrastructure and boost waterfront redevelopment in Mumbai. The project is expected to attract investment, support commercial activities, and provide a model for similar coastal developments across India.
