Synopsis

Visa will relocate its European headquarters to Canary Wharf in London, leasing 300,000 square feet at One Canada Square for a 15-year term and moving from Paddington by summer 2028. The financial district, recovering from pandemic-related declines in office demand, is attracting global companies once again. Canary Wharf Group emphasized Visa's choice as a positive step for business growth. This development coincides with other major projects, including JPMorgan Chase's new tower and plans by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund to expand office space in East London, highlighting the district's ongoing revival.

Visa is set to move its European headquarters to London's Canary Wharf financial district, according to the Canary Wharf Group. The company has signed a lease for 300,000 square feet at One Canada Square on a 15-year term, with the relocation planned for the summer of 2028 from its current Paddington location.

Canary Wharf, co-owned by Qatar Investment Authority and Canada's Brookfield, experienced a decline in office demand during the pandemic but is now witnessing a resurgence as companies encourage employees to return to office spaces. Canary Wharf Group's CEO, Shobi Khan, highlighted that the district continues to attract a wide range of international businesses and welcomed Visa's decision to establish its European hub there, citing the location's strategic support for business growth.

This move follows other major developments in Canary Wharf. Last week, JPMorgan Chase announced plans to construct a tower in the district, which is expected to generate 9.9 billion pounds (USD 13.2 billion) over six years for the local economy, including construction costs, and create around 7,800 jobs. Additionally, Qatar's sovereign wealth fund has been revising plans to renovate its HSBC skyscraper in East London to increase office capacity, reflecting a broader trend of office space expansion in the area.
