Andhra Pradesh's State Investment Promotion Board has cleared a large solar ingot and wafer manufacturing project proposed by ReNew Photovoltaics in Rambilli, Anakapalli district. The subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC plans to invest INR 3,990 crore in a 6 GW greenfield unit designed to reduce India's dependence on imported solar components, especially from China. The facility will be developed on a 140-acre site supported under the Government of India's PLI scheme for solar manufacturing. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2026, with commercial production expected by January 2028.
The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility proposed by ReNew Photovoltaics in Rambilli, located in Anakapalli district. The project involves an investment of INR 3,990 crore for developing a 6 GW greenfield unit that will produce the primary components required for solar cells and modules.
According to an official statement issued late last week, the proposal by ReNew Photovoltaics, a subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC, received formal clearance from the board. The project has been positioned as an important step toward reducing India's reliance on imported solar materials, particularly from China, and supporting the country's target of reaching 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030. India has been increasingly expanding its upstream solar manufacturing base, and this unit is expected to contribute to that trajectory.
The facility will be developed on a 140-acre parcel that will soon be handed over for construction. The project also benefits from the Government of India's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which aims to promote integrated solar manufacturing across the value chain, including ingots, wafers, cells, and modules.
The unit is planned for completion by March 2026, while commercial output is targeted to begin from January 2028. Once operations commence, the plant is expected to generate approximately 1,200 high-skilled and semi-skilled jobs. As per the official release, the facility will require 95 MW of uninterrupted power supply and around 10 MLD of water to support its operations.
This approval follows a broader trend of states working to expand domestic solar manufacturing capacity in line with national renewable energy goals. Andhra Pradesh has been positioning itself as a preferred location for large-scale industrial and clean-energy projects, leveraging its available land, port connectivity, and established industrial corridors.
