Synopsis

Karnataka has increased the expenditure for the Invest Karnataka 2025 summit to INR 100.70 crore to cover additional infrastructure and investor support requirements. The government will release INR 25.70 crore under the 2025-26 Export and Trade Promotion scheme to meet pending and extra costs. The state has also approved RGUHS's plan to set up advanced skill labs in six cities at INR 452.89 crore, funded entirely by the university. Additionally, 19 new Morarji Desai Residential Schools will be built at INR 304 crore, while plans for land acquisition in Bengaluru Rural have been dropped after public protests.

The Karnataka cabinet has approved an increase in spending for the 'Invest Karnataka 2025' summit, raising the total outlay to INR 100.70 crore from the previously sanctioned INR 90 crore. The revision comes after additional infrastructure, investor-support arrangements, and field-level activities became necessary during the planning and execution of the event at Bengaluru Palace. Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil stated that these unavoidable requirements led to a modified cost structure managed through the Event Management Agency.

The initial sanction for the 2025 summit was INR 90 crore, similar to the allocation for the 2023 edition. However, actual costs reached INR 100.70 crore, prompting post-facto administrative approval. Of the original INR 90 crore, INR 15 crore is yet to be released by the Finance Department. The remaining INR 10.70 crore, covering the difference between sanctioned and actual expenses, will also be provided. Overall, INR 25.70 crore will be allocated under the 2025-26 'Export and Trade Promotion' scheme.

In addition, the cabinet approved the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Gadag, to set up advanced skill laboratories across six cities at a total cost of INR 452.89 crore. The centres will be located in Kalaburagi, Davanagere, Mangaluru, Bhimanakuppe near Kengeri in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Gadag. Kalaburagi will host a dedicated simulation facility, while the other cities will have modern skill and research laboratories. RGUHS will fully fund the project from its own resources and implement it in three phases. Skill-lab centres in Gadag and Bhimanakuppe, not previously mentioned in the Budget, will also be established on a turn-key basis.

The government additionally approved the construction of 19 Morarji Desai Residential Schools across the state at a cost of INR 304 crore. Meanwhile, plans to acquire 1,777 acres of land in 13 villages under Channarayapatna Hobli of Devanahalli Taluk for an aerospace park have been dropped following widespread protests against the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) land acquisition.
