Northern Railways has resumed the narrow-gauge train services in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra Valley after they remained suspended due to heavy rainfall and landslides earlier this year. The restored operations include two train pairs between Baijnath Paprola and Kangra, and one pair between Baijnath Paprola and Joginder Nagar. Railway officials confirmed that repair work along the damaged stretches has been completed, allowing movement to restart safely. The resumption is expected to support daily travel for local residents and help tourism-related activity recover in the region.
Northern Railways has restarted narrow-gauge train services in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra Valley after the route remained closed for several months due to monsoon-related damage. The line had been affected when heavy rains and landslides disrupted operations earlier in the year, leading to a complete suspension of services until repair work was completed.
The revival of the route includes two train pairs operating between Baijnath Paprola and Kangra, along with one train pair between Baijnath Paprola and Joginder Nagar. These routes form a significant part of the Kangra Valley Railway network, which supports both local mobility and tourist movement. Officials confirmed that essential repair and strengthening work along the affected stretches has now been completed, making the route fit for safe operations.
Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar approved the restoration after engineers validated the repaired sections. Senior officials shared that the decision to restart services was taken once the track and infrastructure were inspected and cleared for regular use. According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, the resumption will provide an affordable travel option for residents and may also help tourism recover, as visitors often use this scenic line to explore different parts of the valley. He also advised passengers to check updated train schedules before planning their journeys.
The Kangra Valley Railway has historically been an important link in the region, known for connecting remote areas that have limited road transport options. The recent suspension had made movement difficult for many regular commuters and had also affected businesses dependent on local and tourist travel. The return of these narrow-gauge services is expected to gradually restore routine travel patterns and improve accessibility across the valley.
