A revised traffic plan has been put in place on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to maintain two-way movement while construction on the Ramban flyover continues. The plan was cleared after DIG Jammu Traffic Range Mohd Haseeb Mughal inspected the stretch between Nachlana and Hingni along with teams from the National Highways Authority of India and the traffic police. Officials reviewed the disruptions caused by ongoing work and finalised measures such as stricter enforcement, updated road markings and installation of warning signage at critical points to keep movement steady on the key corridor.
Authorities have finalised a new traffic plan for the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to ensure two-way flow during the ongoing flyover construction in Ramban district. The decision was taken after DIG Jammu Traffic Range Mohd Haseeb Mughal visited the active work zone between Nachlana and Hingni, where vehicle movement had been affected in the past week due to construction activity.
During the visit, the DIG was accompanied by officials from the National Highways Authority of India and the traffic police. The teams examined the bottlenecks across the area and discussed the changes required to maintain continuous movement. After the review, Mughal directed the traffic police to manage flow more closely and avoid any stoppages that could lead to long delays, especially during peak rush hours.
As part of the revised plan, authorities will install updated signage across vulnerable portions of the 270-kilometre route. This includes clear 'no overtaking' instructions and additional caution boards at curves, narrow zones and points where construction machinery is operating. Road markings in specific sections will also be strengthened to guide vehicles through tighter patches created by flyover work.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway remains the only all-weather link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, making uninterrupted flow essential for both civilian and supply movement. Officials also inspected other congestion-prone areas along the corridor to understand recurring pressure points and ensure that the revised plan is implemented consistently across the route.
The new arrangement aims to support highway traffic while construction at Ramban progresses, allowing work to continue without extended closures or full traffic blocks.
