Ludhiana Municipal Corporation sealed six buildings this week across Malhar Road, BRS Nagar, Ferozepur Road and Dugri Road, including a hotel, after owners failed to clear outstanding civic dues and were found with unauthorised constructions. Officials said prior notices had been ignored, prompting the action as part of a wider crackdown on illegal structures and unpaid charges such as change-of-land-use fees. The MC warned that any construction without approved building plans will face sealing or demolition and urged residents to regularise deviations. The drive follows earlier notices to unsafe and non-compliant buildings and will continue as the corporation steps up enforcement for safer, planned urban development.
Acting on the instructions of its commissioner, Ludhiana MC's building branch undertook a sealing drive this week and shut down six buildings at diverse locations including Malhar Road, BRS Nagar, Ferozepur Road (including one hotel) and Dugri Road after their owners failed to settle outstanding civic dues and were found to have unauthorised structures. The owners had reportedly ignored prior notices requiring rectification of illegal construction and payment of pending charges.
Officials from the MC revealed that the move was part of a broader crackdown targeting both unpaid civic dues - such as change-of-land-use charges - and unauthorised developments. The municipal building branch has warned that any structure built without prior approval of necessary building plans will face immediate action, including sealing or demolition. Officials have also appealed publicly to residents and developers to ensure that construction only begins following formal sanction from civic authorities.
This is not the first such enforcement - previously, the MC had identified a large number of unsafe or non-compliant buildings across the city and served notices under the relevant municipal regulations. The recent sealing drive underscores an escalating resolve to check irregular construction, curb revenue leakages, and promote safer, planned urban development.
Municipal officials indicated that the enforcement drive will continue in the coming days, signalling further scrutiny of pending dues and ongoing unauthorised construction across various zones. Residents and property owners have been urged to verify approval status and regularise any unauthorised structures at the earliest to avoid action.
