Telangana to see redevelopment of 40 railway stations to modern standards

Telangana is redeveloping 40 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to provide improved passenger facilities. Hitec City station is being renovated in two phases at a cost of INR 36 crore, with work including a new facade, extended footbridge, lifts, escalators, modern toilets, and updated concourse areas. Secunderabad and Hyderabad stations are also being upgraded, costing INR 720 crore and INR 350 crore respectively, while Kacheguda awaits approval. These developments aim to enhance convenience, comfort, and circulation across the state's rail network.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy announced that Telangana is set to redevelop 40 railway stations across the state to provide modern facilities and better passenger convenience. He shared this update during an inspection of ongoing work at Hitec City railway station, which handles around 5,400 passengers daily.


The redevelopment at Hitec City station is being carried out in two phases at a total cost of INR 36 crore. The project includes a completely new facade, an upgraded circulating area, and extension of the existing footbridge from 2 metres to 12 metres. It also involves installation of two lifts and two escalators, modern toilets, an additional ticket counter on platform 2, and updated concourse and waiting halls. Phase I is expected to be completed by February next year.

Beyond Hitec City, major stations like Secunderabad and Hyderabad are also undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with allocated budgets of INR?720?crore and INR?350?crore respectively. Meanwhile, plans for Kacheguda railway station are awaiting final approval. The scheme aims to modernize stations with enhanced passenger amenities, better circulation, and improved infrastructure to support increasing commuter traffic.

These upgrades are not limited to large stations; smaller suburban stations are also included to ensure consistent standards and convenience across the network. The modernization efforts are expected to facilitate smoother travel, reduce congestion, and offer a more comfortable experience for daily commuters and travelers in Telangana.
