Synopsis

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has set weekly performance targets for its property tax and building branches to enhance the recovery of pending dues and curb unauthorised constructions. INR 131.49 crore has already been collected against an annual target of INR 180 crore for 2025-26. Officials have been instructed to intensify collection efforts, and residents are urged to pay dues on time to avoid penalties. The move builds on a record recovery earlier this year and combines stricter enforcement with close monitoring to ensure better civic service delivery.

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has introduced weekly targets for its property tax and building branches to strengthen recovery of pending dues and prevent unauthorised constructions. MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal reviewed the performance of the property tax wing and building branch at the Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. He announced that officials would be closely monitored against these weekly targets, and strict departmental action would be taken if the targets were not met.

Along with Dachalwal, Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, zonal commissioners Neeraj Jain, Gurpal Singh, Jasdev Sekhon, SE-cum-MTP Ranjit Singh, and assistant town planners attended the review. The MC has set an annual property tax recovery target of INR 180 crore for 2025?26, of which INR?131.49 crore has already been collected across the city's four zones. Officials have been instructed to accelerate collection efforts to meet the remaining target.

The building branch has been directed to take stringent action against unauthorised developments. Commissioner Dachalwal also emphasised the importance of timely tax payments, noting that citizen cooperation is crucial for maintaining civic services. He highlighted that residents who fail to pay on time may face penalties, linking tax compliance directly to service delivery.

This step follows a record property tax collection earlier in the year, when by September, the MC had already collected over INR?123 crore the highest in any previous year. Officials have attributed improved collections to measures such as SMS reminders for property owners, special tax camps, and closer monitoring of delinquent accounts. The current weekly target system aims to maintain this momentum while also addressing unauthorised construction activity across Ludhiana.
