Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's standing committee has reviewed proposals for 17 new high-rise projects across Bodakdev, Thaltej, Ambli-Bopal, Science City Road, Gota and Shilaj, reflecting growing demand for residential, commercial and mixed-use spaces in the city's expanding western corridors. Together, these projects will add about 2,000 homes and 2,300 commercial units, while AMC has already earned nearly INR 250 crore through permissions and related charges. This year, AMC also issued its first Building Use certificate for a residential tower exceeding 100 metres on Science City Road, signalling Ahmedabad's shift toward vertical growth. The cluster of seven skyscraper proposals in Bodakdev further reinforces its emergence as a major high-rise development hub.
The standing committee of AMC reviewed proposals for 17 tall-building projects situated in localities such as Bodakdev, Thaltej, Ambli-Bopal, Science City Road, Gota and Shilaj. These projects are slated to offer a mix of residential, commercial and mixed-use spaces, reflecting rising demand for housing and office units in expanding western corridors of the city.
Together, these developments are set to yield roughly 2,000 residential units and 2,300 commercial units, providing a substantial boost to both housing and business-space availability. Through the processing of permissions and related charges, AMC has earned around INR 250 crore - a clear indicator of the fiscal significance of this vertical-growth push.
Significantly, AMC issued this year the first Building Use certificate for a residential building on Science City Road that crosses the 100-metre mark. This milestone signals Ahmedabad's entry into the realm of 100-metre-plus residential towers, a departure from the earlier norm of mid-rise structures.
Historically, building regulations until 2017 capped construction at 23 floors or a height of 70 metres. Those limits were relaxed following amendments to the Common General Development Control Regulations 2017 (CGDCR-2017), enabling high-rise and skyscraper developments in select cities including Ahmedabad. Since then, developers and municipal authorities have increasingly embraced vertical expansion, particularly across burgeoning western corridors such as SG Highway and Science City Road.
The concentration of seven skyscraper permissions in Bodakdev underscores the shifting focus of development toward that suburb, reinforcing its emerging status as a vertical-growth hub within the city.
