Bisleri International and the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation have jointly launched a citywide plastic waste management project featuring a new Material Recovery Facility and a first-of-its-kind Plastic Recycling Museum. The initiative aims to improve plastic collection, segregation, and recycling while increasing public awareness on responsible disposal. The museum, built from recycled materials, includes exhibits explaining the recycling process and a signature installation made from 2,000 recycled bottles. The partnership also plans to place 70 recycled plastic-cap benches across the city, supporting the broader goal of reducing landfill waste and strengthening community engagement.
Bisleri International has partnered with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation to introduce a structured plastic waste management system across the city. The effort includes a new Material Recovery Facility and the Sustainability Inspiration Centre, a Plastic Recycling Museum designed to help citizens understand how plastic can be reused responsibly.
The Material Recovery Facility has been equipped with machinery such as a conveyor belt and baling unit provided by Bisleri. The centre has been created to improve plastic waste collection, segregation, and processing, especially from hotels, restaurants, corporates, institutions, and housing societies. The initiative supports the ongoing efforts in the region to reduce plastic going to landfills and strengthen the local recycling network.
The Sustainability Inspiration Centre stands out as the region's first museum built entirely with recycled materials. It offers an interactive learning environment for children and residents. One of its core attractions is 'Binny the Bird,' an installation crafted using 2,000 recycled plastic bottles. The museum walks visitors through the journey of plastic from waste to reusable material. As part of the broader programme, 70 benches made from recycled bottle caps are planned to be installed across the city to reinforce the message of community-driven recycling.
During the launch, Bisleri International CEO Angelo George said that the company's sustainability efforts focus on creating systems that encourage people to take action. He noted that the collaboration with MBMC is aimed at strengthening community participation and promoting responsible plastic disposal in Mira Bhayandar.
MBMC Municipal Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma said the plastic recovery and museum facilities support the corporation's efforts to build a more organised and responsible waste management system. He added that the museum would help improve awareness about segregation and recycling among residents, especially students.
The event was attended by senior representatives from Bisleri and MBMC, including officials from sustainability, administration, and municipal departments.
Together, the project aims to build a stronger circular economy framework that educates and empowers citizens, reinforcing long-term practices for plastic recovery and recycling in the city.
