Synopsis

During the inauguration of the UP Trade Show Swadeshi Mela in Gorakhpur earlier this week, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath highlighted that the state's robust infrastructure, improved ease of doing business, and strong law and order have driven significant domestic and international investments. He noted that Uttar Pradesh had transformed from a once "BIMARU" state into an "enterprise-oriented" region, becoming a major contributor to the nation's economic growth under the double-engine government.

At the UP Trade Show Swadeshi Mela held in Gorakhpur earlier this week, Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath stated that strong infrastructure, business-friendly reforms, and an effective law and order system had made Uttar Pradesh a preferred investment destination for global investors. He mentioned that such coordination between governance and enterprise had attracted large-scale investments from across India and abroad, enabling the state to play a leading role in national development.

Adityanath remarked that Swadeshi Melas were now being organised in every district of Uttar Pradesh. Referring to the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show held in Greater Noida in the past week, he noted that over 2,250 entrepreneurs participated, with more than 500 foreign buyers attending and goods worth INR 11,200 crore sold. He described this as a reflection of the "new Uttar Pradesh," which had evolved from a "BIMARU" state to an "Udyam Pradesh," symbolising progress and enterprise.

He elaborated that industrialisation generated employment, improved connectivity, and enhanced access to new technologies, benefiting industries and citizens alike. Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for the transformation, asserting that the state had shed its earlier image of poor governance to become the growth engine of India's economy.

The Chief Minister recalled that prior to 2017, establishing industries in the state was difficult due to widespread anarchy, forcing many to leave. He added that since 2017, the double-engine government had ensured safety, adopted a zero-tolerance policy on crime, simplified regulations, and boosted ease of doing business. MSMEs were granted NOC exemptions for up to 1,000 days, enabling many struggling units to revive. Presently, 9.6 million MSME units operate across the state, generating employment for around 20 million people.

Adityanath emphasised that MSMEs remain the second-largest employment provider after agriculture and continue to sustain livelihoods even in crises, citing their role during the COVID-19 pandemic when millions of migrant workers found work through the sector. He added that Uttar Pradesh was advancing rapidly in law, order, and infrastructure, with major developments in highways, railways, airways, and inland waterways.

He urged citizens to prefer indigenous products, noting that adopting Swadeshi honoured local craftsmanship and retained national wealth within the country. He cautioned that profits from foreign goods often funded activities against national interests, including terrorism and separatism. The Chief Minister linked Swadeshi adoption to realising the vision of a developed India and a prosperous Uttar Pradesh.

Promoting the 'Vocal for Local' and 'Local for Global' initiatives, Adityanath stated that the Swadeshi movement aligned with Prime Minister Modi's vision for self-reliance. He pointed out that, before 2017, idols used during Diwali were imported from China, but now, under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, terracotta idols produced locally have gained GI recognition and can be exported globally. Uttar Pradesh, he added, now holds the highest number of GI tags in the country.

Discussing industrial progress, Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh had become a leading hub for electronics manufacturing, producing 60% of India's mobile phones. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan also stated that under Adityanath's leadership, Uttar Pradesh was advancing towards complete self-reliance, with high-tech defence equipment such as BrahMos missiles and AK 2023 rifles being manufactured within the state.

The combination of infrastructure expansion, pro-industry reforms, and strengthened law enforcement has positioned the state as a major investment destination. With a strong focus on MSMEs, indigenous production, and global competitiveness, Uttar Pradesh is steadily progressing towards self-reliance, emerging as a key contributor to India's growth story.
