Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group), a diversified FMCG conglomerate, was recognised earlier this week as Water Positive by GRIHA, a joint initiative of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and TERI. With a Water Positivity Index of 1.8, the Group joined a select few corporates in India to achieve such certification. The recognition followed a two-and-a-half-year assessment across 30 business units nationwide and reflected DS Group's ongoing dedication to sustainable water management, efficient resource utilisation, and community-focused conservation initiatives.
Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) was certified as Water Positive by GRIHA, an initiative by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and TERI, marking a significant sustainability milestone for the conglomerate. The certification awarded the Group a Water Positivity Index of 1.80, placing it among a limited number of corporates in India with this distinction. The assessment spanned over two and a half years across 30 operational locations and evaluated comprehensive water stewardship measures implemented across its business divisions, including Mouth Fresheners, Food and Beverage, Hospitality, and Agriculture. The interventions created a water storage potential of 66 lakh kilolitres and were achieved through rainwater harvesting, wastewater reuse, recharge wells, water-efficient fixtures, and ecological restoration efforts. This integrated approach not only reduced dependence on freshwater but also enhanced community water security through large-scale conservation projects.
Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar stated that as global water demand continues to rise, DS Group had recognised the urgency for sustainable water management and was actively embedding water stewardship into its business and community operations. He highlighted that such efforts aligned with the global climate discussions expected at COP30, emphasising that sustainability was viewed as a lasting responsibility rather than a temporary project.
Sanjay Seth, Vice President and CEO of GRIHA Council, noted that DS Group's certification represented a benchmark for industry leadership in responsible resource management. He added that the Group had demonstrated how sustainability, productivity, and profitability could be achieved concurrently, showcasing the importance of corporate environmental leadership in maintaining a balance between economic growth and ecological preservation.
The water positivity effort was described as a collective achievement, involving employees, suppliers, and customers in conservation initiatives. Through these shared efforts, DS Group strengthened its contribution towards sustainable growth and environmental resilience.
