Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been declared the top performer in the Local Self-Government category of the Sixth National Water Awards � 2024, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The recognition highlights the corporation�s commendable efforts in water conservation and management. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in New Delhi later this month, where the President of India will felicitate the winners.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti?s Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation recently announced the winners of the Sixth National Water Awards ? 2024, aimed at promoting excellence in water conservation and management. In the Local Self-Government category, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) secured the first position across the country, earning another national accolade to its name.


Chief Minister extended his congratulations to all winners through a social media post, appreciating their contribution towards sustainable water practices. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Kailas Shinde also congratulated the citizens of Navi Mumbai for their collective effort that contributed to this national recognition.

Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, made the announcement of the winners earlier this week. The award presentation ceremony will be held in New Delhi later this month, where the President of India will confer the honours. The awards aim to encourage water literacy and conservation across all levels in India, supporting the vision of a ?Water Prosperous India?.

For the 2024 edition, the Ministry received 751 nominations from across the nation. The Central Water Commission and Central Ground Water Board conducted on-ground inspections and submitted detailed evaluations. Subsequently, an independent jury selected the winners through a transparent scoring process. NMMC?s recognition as the leading civic body in this category has been widely applauded across various levels.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation?s national recognition underscores its consistent efforts towards water conservation, sustainable management, and awareness. The achievement not only enhances the city?s reputation for environmental responsibility but also sets a benchmark for other municipal bodies nationwide.
