Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde recently carried out an unannounced inspection of road repair and improvement works across Seawoods. The inspection was conducted alongside City Engineer Shirish Aradwad and Executive Engineer Madan Waghchaude. Following persistent rainfall since May, several roads had developed potholes and remained unrestored due to utility excavations. Dr Shinde instructed engineering officials to accelerate all pending works while maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring asphalt layering was carried out under proper technical supervision and temperature conditions.
In response to public complaints over deteriorating road conditions following the monsoon, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its road improvement works under the guidance of Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. Acting on his earlier directives, the engineering department initiated restoration projects across multiple areas. Earlier this week, Dr Shinde conducted an unannounced on-site inspection of the ongoing road construction activities in Seawoods, accompanied by City Engineer Shirish Aradwad and Executive Engineer Madan Waghchaude.
The inspection covered several sectors, including 46, 48, and 50, where resurfacing and asphalt works were underway. Dr Shinde examined the quality of bitumen used and emphasised that the asphalt should be applied at a minimum temperature of 120 degrees Celsius. He directed that potholes and uneven surfaces be first treated with a BM layer before the final asphalt coating to ensure long-lasting durability. The commissioner personally reviewed work at key points such as the Akshar Signal Road, the L&T Bridge junction, and the main road in Sector 50.
Dr Shinde stressed the importance of completing the works within the next eight to ten days while maintaining technical precision and material quality. He also instructed that water pipeline works in the same areas be expedited simultaneously. Furthermore, he ordered that the completed road sections undergo independent third-party quality testing to ensure compliance with standards.
The NMMC Commissioner reiterated the importance of delivering durable and high-quality road infrastructure within set timelines. He directed the engineering department to give top priority to public complaints and to maintain strict supervision of all repair and resurfacing works across departments. His surprise inspection aimed to ensure accountability and adherence to specifications while expediting the pace of road improvement activities across the city. Dr Shinde's directives reflect the civic body's renewed focus on maintaining safe and sustainable road conditions post-monsoon.
