The Bhuj railway station redevelopment project under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has achieved 75% completion. With an investment of INR 180 crore, the project is being executed through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model and is expected to be completed by April 2026. The redevelopment includes new passenger amenities such as lifts, escalators, underground parking, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting systems. The station's design reflects the Rann of Kutch's local culture and will improve accessibility, sustainability, and regional rail connectivity once completed.
The Bhuj railway station in Gujarat is undergoing a major transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with construction now 75% complete. The INR 180 crore redevelopment project is being implemented under the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model and is targeted for completion by April 2026.
The redevelopment aims to modernize the station while reflecting the cultural identity of the Rann of Kutch. The new station building spans 970 square metres, while the concourse area will cover around 3,240 square metres to allow smoother passenger movement and better crowd management. Separate arrival and departure areas have been planned for convenience.
For improved passenger facilities, the project includes 13 lifts and 10 escalators to ensure barrier-free access for all passengers, including the elderly and differently abled. Underground parking will accommodate 400 two-wheelers, 50 cars, and 30 auto-rickshaws. In addition, four charging points for electric vehicles are being installed to support the shift toward sustainable mobility.
On the environmental front, the redevelopment focuses strongly on sustainability. It includes a 500 KWP solar power system, a rainwater harvesting setup, and a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 560 KLD. Nearly 32,000 square feet of green space will be developed within the station premises, and a 250-ton HVAC system will provide energy-efficient air conditioning.
The Bhuj station redevelopment is also expected to enhance connectivity across Kutch district. The recent completion of the broad-gauge conversion of the Bhuj-Naliya line has already strengthened regional transport. The Indian Railways is also working on new lines in the area to improve access to ports, border towns, and tourist destinations such as the Rann of Kutch. These upgrades aim to promote trade, tourism, and employment opportunities in the region.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which Bhuj station is being modernized, was launched to redevelop more than 1,200 railway stations across the country in phases. The initiative focuses on improving passenger comfort, introducing modern facilities, and ensuring sustainability in station infrastructure. Bhuj station, being one of the key projects in western India, reflects the government's broader effort to upgrade railway assets in smaller cities.
