Synopsis

Sembcorp Green Infra, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries, has been awarded a 150 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy project by SJVN. The initiative combines solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to ensure steady power delivery during high-demand hours. This project forms part of SJVN's 1,500 MW tender for assured peak power through renewable energy sources connected to the Inter-State Transmission System. Once completed, it will further strengthen Sembcorp's position in India's renewable energy market, where it now holds over 7.6 GW of capacity.

Sembcorp Green Infra, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries, has secured a 150 MW renewable energy project from the state-owned power company SJVN. The project, designed as a firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) initiative, combines solar, wind, and advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) to provide consistent power during peak demand periods.

This project is part of SJVN's 1,500 MW and 6,000 MWh tender aimed at delivering assured peak power through renewable sources integrated with storage systems. According to Sembcorp Industries, the project will be developed under a build-own-operate model and connected to the Inter-State Transmission System to ensure efficient power distribution.

To meet the 150 MW contracted capacity, Sembcorp plans to install around 750 MW of combined solar and battery storage capacity. The project is expected to begin commercial operations within 24 months after signing a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN. Funding will be arranged through a mix of internal resources and debt.

A. Nithyanand, CEO of Sembcorp's Renewables Business in India, mentioned that the FDRE project represents a significant step in the company's goal of delivering clean and dependable energy solutions in India. He also noted that Sembcorp has a secured pipeline exceeding 4 GW in solar and wind energy, along with over 1.4 GWh of energy storage capacity, positioning it well to support India's growing need for flexible renewable power.

With this new project, Sembcorp's total renewable energy portfolio in India has risen to over 7.6 GW. Globally, the company's renewable energy capacity has reached around 20.1 GW, including projects under acquisition, reinforcing its growing presence in the international clean energy sector.
