VK Paul, NITI Aayog member, called for a collaborative effort between the government and private sector to develop an affordable home care model for seniors. He suggested combining traditional medicine with telemedicine and technology for comprehensive care at home, including sensitivity to women's health. Affordability was highlighted as a key principle. Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava noted the government's goal to create a predictive and preventive health system by 2047 and cited PM-JAY, which has facilitated over 10.5 crore hospitalisations so far.
NITI Aayog member for health, VK Paul, urged both government and private sector stakeholders to work together to develop an affordable home care system for senior citizens. Speaking at the CII Annual Health Summit in New Delhi, he highlighted the need for a structured approach where resources are periodically provided to support the implementation of such models.
Paul suggested that these systems could integrate traditional medicine with modern telemedicine and technology to deliver comprehensive home care. He emphasised that the model should ensure high-quality care, especially for patients in critical conditions, while allowing them to receive treatment from home.
Addressing women's health, he noted that these models should be sensitive to the specific care requirements of women, ensuring they receive additional attention where needed. Affordability, Paul stressed, should remain central, so that the services are accessible to all sections of society.
Earlier at the summit, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava highlighted the government's vision of creating a predictive, preventive, and participatory health system by 2047. She noted that initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) have supported over 10.5 crore hospitalisations, demonstrating progress in making healthcare more accessible.
