The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA), along with the municipal corporation and district administration, demolished illegal constructions on three plots in Begambagh, each about 2,400 sq. ft., after leaseholders violated land-use terms. Originally allotted in 1985 for residential use under 30-year leases, the plots were later used for commercial purposes without renewal. Following the court's dismissal of a stay order, UDA reclaimed the land under CEO Sandeep Kumar Soni's supervision. Over 200 personnel ensured a peaceful operation. The UDA said it will continue monitoring other properties to prevent similar violations, reinforcing strict enforcement of lease and land-use regulations in Ujjain.
The Ujjain Development Authority, in coordination with the municipal corporation and district administration, recently carried out a demolition drive in the Begambagh locality The action targeted illegal constructions built on plots numbered 26, 48, and 63, each measuring around 2,400 square feet. These plots were granted on 30-year residential leases in 1985, but after the lease period expired, the properties were allegedly used for commercial purposes instead of residential ones.
UDA Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Kumar Soni stated that the demolition was conducted after the court dismissed a stay order, clearing the way for the authority to reclaim the land. He added that the leaseholders had not sought renewal within the stipulated time and had violated land-use conditions by converting the residential plots for commercial activities.
More than 100 police personnel and a similar number of administrative staff were deployed to oversee the demolition. The drive was executed peacefully, in contrast to previous operations in the same locality, which had met with resistance and protests.
The three cleared plots are part of 28 residential plots originally allotted in Begambagh in 1985. The UDA has indicated that it will continue monitoring other properties in the locality to prevent further unauthorised construction or commercial misuse of residential leases.
The demolition initiative by the Ujjain Development Authority highlights its firm approach towards enforcing land-use regulations and lease compliance. The peaceful execution of the operation marked a significant administrative success in curbing unauthorised developments. The incident serves as a caution to leaseholders and property owners across Ujjain that any deviation from approved land use or non-renewal of expired leases may lead to strict enforcement action from the authorities.
