Synopsis

The Belgium-based Radisson Hotel Group is targeting a portfolio of 500 hotels and a workforce of 50,000 people in India by 2030. The company currently has just over 200 properties there and around 17,000 employees. In the next few years it aims to grow its hotel count to 250-260 by 2026, focusing on tier-II to tier-IV cities and airport hotels. Branded residences will remain a secondary model for the next five years, not the main focus.

Radisson Hotel Group is charting a major expansion in India. The company intends to increase its property count from over 200 at present to around 250-260 by 2026, and ultimately to 500 hotels by 2030. A senior executive, Elie Younes (Executive Vice President & Global Chief Development Officer), said the workforce in India is expected to rise almost three-fold to about 50,000 people by 2030, up from around 17,000 currently.

Younes explained that of the 500 hotels planned, roughly 2500-300 will be open within the next five years, with about 200 still under construction in that period. The company currently has around 130 hotels open and over 70 under construction in India. He emphasised that the next phase of growth will come from tier-II through tier-IV cities and airports rather than only major metropolitan locations.

The group also highlighted that its branded residences segment will be considered an alternative model rather than its primary focus over the next five years. Younes pointed out the need for better visa regulation and improved airline infrastructure in India to attract more foreign tourists and support the hospitality market.

Radisson's long-standing presence in India, collaborations with local developers and its multi-brand strategy across luxury, upscale and mid-scale segments underline its confidence in the country's hospitality growth potential. Past milestones include entering some 45 new Indian markets over the previous three years and surpassing the 200-hotel mark in this region.
