The Mumbai Metro Line 3, or Aqua Line, handled 38.63 lakh passengers in October, showing consistent growth in daily ridership since its full launch earlier this month. Covering 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR, the corridor recorded an average weekday ridership of 1.41 lakh, with the highest single-day count reaching 1.82 lakh. Operated by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the line connects major business and transit hubs and has introduced WhatsApp and QR-based ticketing for easier travel.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) reported that Metro Line 3 transported about 38.63 lakh commuters in October. The 33.5 km Aqua Line connects Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai with Aarey JVLR in the western suburbs, marking the city's first fully underground metro network.
According to MMRC officials, the line saw 33.33 lakh passengers in the first 22 days of operation since its inauguration by the Prime Minister earlier this month. This quick adoption highlights how residents are increasingly turning to metro transport as a faster and more dependable alternative to road and suburban rail routes.
The average weekday ridership on the corridor was recorded at 1.41 lakh, while the highest single-day ridership touched 1.82 lakh. Officials said these numbers reflect a steady increase in daily footfall as commuters become more familiar with the new service.
Metro Line 3 passes through key administrative and business areas, including the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Churchgate, and CSMT, offering improved access between major commercial zones. The corridor has 27 stations, with all but Aarey JVLR located underground.
To improve accessibility and reduce queues, MMRC has introduced WhatsApp ticketing through +91 98730 16836 and enabled QR code-based ticketing at stations. These steps aim to make travel smoother and paperless.
The Aqua Line's successful ridership figures are being viewed as an encouraging sign for Mumbai's expanding metro network. Once fully operational across its planned routes, the metro system is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across the city's dense business and residential districts.
