Synopsis

The Government of Gangnan District in Guigang City, Guangxi, has signed a cooperation agreement with Shandong Jinyuan Wood Industry Co., Ltd. at the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo. The project involves setting up a production line and supporting facilities for 40 million impregnated papers and 12 million decorative panels annually, alongside advanced production and testing systems. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate about CNY 680 million in annual revenue. The initiative strengthens Gangnan's efforts to modernize its wood industry cluster and expand its footprint in the ASEAN market.

The Government of Gangnan District in Guigang City, Guangxi, recently entered into a partnership with Shandong Jinyuan Wood Industry Co., Ltd. during the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo. The agreement outlines plans to establish a production line and related infrastructure with a targeted annual output of 40 million impregnated papers and 12 million decorative panels. The project will also feature advanced manufacturing and testing equipment, with annual revenue expected to reach nearly CNY 680 million once production begins.

This collaboration marks a major step in Gangnan District's ongoing efforts to upgrade its wood industry cluster. Benefiting from its proximity to the ASEAN economic zone and access to rich forest resources, Gangnan has leveraged opportunities arising from the Western Land-Sea Corridor and the Pinglu Canal development. The district has also used the advantages of Guigang's inland river hub and the Xijiang Golden Waterway to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen trade connections with Southeast Asia. These initiatives have supported the transition of its wood sector from standard panel manufacturing to high-end customized home furnishing production.

Currently, Gangnan District has developed a complete industrial chain-from veneer production to whole-house customization. In 2024, its output of man-made wood panels exceeded 15 million cubic meters, accounting for nearly one-fourth of Guangxi's total production. Since 2006, the number of wood industry enterprises in the district has grown significantly-from about 30 to over 1,400 companies, including more than 300 large-scale enterprises. The Gangnan Wood Industry Industrial Park has become one of China's leading production bases for branded wood panels, producing more than 10 million cubic meters annually across categories such as furniture panels, wall panels, and flooring.

Gangnan has also made progress in digital transformation. The district is integrating artificial intelligence into production processes like inspection and processing to enhance quality and efficiency. Local company Boyite Smart Home, for instance, has implemented an AI-driven model combining intelligent quality control with an online trading platform, improving the overall performance of the industrial chain. Between January and August this year, enterprises above the designated size in Gangnan's wood sector achieved a total output value of CNY 13.52 billion, reflecting an 8.8% year-on-year rise. Cumulative sales stood at CNY 10.9 billion, up by 7.3%, while man-made wood panel sales from January to July reached 6.545 million cubic meters a 17.8% increase from the previous year.

Tao Jianquan, Secretary of the CPC Gangnan District Committee, said the district is advancing the "one park with multiple zones" model, focusing on developing key industrial hubs such as Jiangnan Industrial Park and Suwan New District, centered around customized furniture manufacturing. The goal is to establish a high-end green home furnishing cluster in South China that extends its influence to ASEAN markets, promoting the concept of "using quality panels to create quality homes" while boosting the local economy and advancing the modern forestry sector.
