Synopsis

Ramco Systems has entered a memorandum of understanding with The ePlane Company to provide its aviation software for managing ePlane's electric air taxi, air ambulance, and air cargo fleets. The partnership aims to support the development and certification of ePlane's e200X aircraft, India's first flying electric taxi. ePlane, incubated at IIT Madras, has received DGCA's Design Organisation Approval and holds patents in eight countries. The agreement will help streamline maintenance, supply chain, safety, compliance, and operational management as ePlane moves towards commercial rollout.

Ramco Systems, a global aviation software company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with The ePlane Company, a deep-tech startup developing India's first flying electric taxi called the e200X. The collaboration will allow ePlane to implement Ramco's comprehensive aviation software to manage the complete lifecycle of its electric air taxi, air ambulance, and air cargo fleets.

Under this agreement, ePlane will use Ramco's software modules that cover engineering, continuing airworthiness management (CAMO), maintenance, supply chain, manufacturing, safety, quality, flight operations, compliance, finance, and human resource management. This technology integration is expected to strengthen ePlane's operational efficiency and readiness as it progresses toward commercial manufacturing and service deployment.

The partnership represents a significant step for India's growing urban air mobility sector. The e200X, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, is currently under type-certification review, which began in December 2024. Once certified, it aims to serve short-distance urban travel, reducing road congestion and cutting carbon emissions.

The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, has emerged as one of India's leading players in the eVTOL space. It is the first private Indian firm to receive Design Organisation Approval (DoA) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for an electric aircraft project and holds patents in eight countries. Earlier this year, the company announced a non-binding agreement to supply 788 air ambulance eVTOLs worth over USD 1 billion.

Ramco Systems' aviation software is used by more than 90 global aviation organizations, including airlines, maintenance and repair operations (MROs), helicopter operators, defence agencies, and other urban air mobility firms. The collaboration with ePlane aligns with Ramco's ongoing efforts to expand its footprint in next-generation aviation technologies and emerging mobility solutions.
