The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has announced its participation as the platinum sponsor of India Maritime Week 2025, which will be held in Mumbai. The event, taking place this week, will provide a platform to showcase Karnataka's maritime strengths, ongoing infrastructure developments, and port-led industrial growth. India Maritime Week brings together maritime professionals, policymakers, global leaders, and innovators to discuss opportunities in trade, coastal infrastructure, port development, digitalisation, and sustainability within the blue economy framework.
NMPA, one of India's 12 major ports, will represent Karnataka's growing presence in the maritime sector. The authority will be joined by several port-led industries including Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), New Terminal Container & Petrochemical Works Corporation (NTCPWC), and the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). Together, these participants will highlight the port's contribution to regional trade and industry integration.
The authority plans to showcase its initiatives around digital transformation, automation, and sustainable port management during the event. NMPA Chairman A. V. Ramana will participate in several key sessions, including one focused on fostering public-private partnerships for a sustainable blue economy, another on maritime digitalisation and emerging technologies, and a panel on cruise and passenger mobility. These discussions are expected to underline Karnataka's expanding role in India's maritime sector.
A major highlight of the event will be the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) estimated at around INR 53,000 crore. The agreements will target investments in port infrastructure, coastal shipping, inland waterways, shipbuilding and repair facilities, cruise tourism, and other maritime services. The initiative is expected to attract new investors while strengthening India's coastal logistics network.
Over the years, India Maritime Week has become a key platform for policy announcements and large-scale investment commitments in the maritime domain. NMPA's leadership in this year's event reflects its commitment to promoting Karnataka's ports as vital contributors to India's maritime ambitions. The authority's participation also signals the state's growing influence in advancing sustainable, technology-driven port operations.
