The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has officially registered about 441 hectares of land from 18 villages in Jewar, which were earlier listed under 3,695 farmers. Despite compensation and residential plot allotments being provided earlier, the land records were not updated, allowing illegal sales, mortgaging, and cultivation. Officials said the updated registration aims to bring transparency, prevent fraud, and secure public land. The authority's step ends a years-long delay and strengthens its control over acquired land earmarked for infrastructure projects.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has completed the formal registration of 441 hectares of land in 18 villages of the Jewar region. These plots were previously recorded under the names of 3,695 farmers, even though compensation had already been paid, and residential plots allotted under the land acquisition agreements.
Officials explained that despite acquisition being completed long ago, the delay in updating official records led to multiple irregularities. The land was used for unauthorised cultivation, mortgaged to banks for loans, and in some cases, sold illegally. The authority discovered such misuse only when development projects were initiated on the acquired sites, which later led to police complaints and legal disputes.
YEIDA's Chief Executive Officer, Rakesh Kumar Singh, said the registration process has now been completed in all the notified villages. He mentioned that this move would ensure transparency in land records, prevent fraudulent activities, and protect the acquired land from being wrongfully used or pledged. Singh added that once the land is officially in the authority's name, no individual or institution will be able to claim ownership or personal rights over it.
Officials highlighted that this issue had persisted for several years, mainly due to administrative delays and lack of coordination between departments during earlier phases of acquisition. The situation had allowed room for manipulation of records, making it difficult for the authority to take control of its own assets.
The authority stated that formal registration will help streamline ongoing and upcoming infrastructure and industrial development in the Yamuna Expressway region. It will also provide a clear legal framework for land use near the upcoming Noida International Airport, which has made the Jewar area a key development hub.
In the past, YEIDA has faced similar challenges in consolidating land ownership in areas surrounding the airport project. Authorities have been taking steps to identify encroachments and illegal colonies formed on previously acquired land, ensuring proper demarcation and record maintenance.
