Synopsis

Alkem Laboratories is developing the Samprada Singh Memorial Radiotherapy Centre in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, with an investment of INR 100 crore. The centre, part of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCHRC), is expected to treat 3,500-4,000 patients annually. Named after Alkem's late founder from Bihar, it aims to provide advanced cancer treatment closer to patients homes. The collaboration between Alkem Foundation and HBCHRC builds on years of partnership in screening and palliative care and aims to reduce the long-standing gap in cancer care in Bihar and neighbouring states.

Alkem Laboratories is setting up a new radiotherapy centre in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, with an investment of INR 100 crore. The centre has been named the Samprada Singh Memorial Radiotherapy Centre, in memory of the company's late founder, who was a native of Bihar.

This centre will be integrated with the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCHRC), which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister just a few weeks ago. It is designed to provide treatment for about 3,500-4,000 cancer patients every year.

The facility will include advanced technology such as linear accelerators (LINAC), stereotaxy, systems for managing organ motion, a CT simulator, and in-house brachytherapy with dedicated applicators. These features will allow doctors to deliver precise and comprehensive cancer care.

Madhurima Singh, Executive Director of Alkem, stated that with the rise in cancer cases each year, it is important to have world-class facilities closer to patients' homes. She added that contributing to the region where Alkem has its roots is particularly meaningful for the company.

Kumar Prabhash, Director of HBCHRC, highlighted that the partnership with Alkem Foundation builds on years of collaboration in screening and palliative care. The new centre will extend this collaboration, providing complete cancer treatment with compassion to patients in Bihar and neighbouring states, bridging long-standing gaps in cancer care in these regions.

The HBCHRC is located on the campus of Shri Krishna Medical College & Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur. The state government had earlier provided land and resources to support the hospital. Alkem Foundation has also been active in Bihar for years through initiatives in cancer screening and palliative care, strengthening its commitment to healthcare in the region.
