Land acquisition for Bhopal Metro's Orange Line is gaining pace as more landowners opt for the Mutual Purchase Policy under Madhya Pradesh's Aapsi Kharid Niti - 2014. So far, 40 property owners have consented, ensuring compensation within two months and avoiding lengthy acquisition disputes. Owners of structures will be reimbursed for buildings, while landholders will receive double the collectorate rate. In areas where consent hasn't been given, acquisition is moving forward through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, with objection periods now closing. With three acquisition notifications issued and final surveys planned, the project is advancing smoothly, signalling reduced resistance and steady progress for metro development.
Landowners along the proposed Orange Line route of Bhopal Metro are increasingly opting for the Mutual Purchase Policy, which enables acquisition through mutual consent under the Madhya Pradesh Aapsi Kharid Niti - 2014. This approach ensures that those agreeing to transfer land for the Metro's development receive compensation within two months, thereby avoiding protracted acquisition processes.
So far, forty property owners have given their consent. Those who own structures will be compensated for their buildings, while landowners (bhoomi swamis) will receive full payment as required by the policy. The 60-day objection period has already drawn to a close in several localities; in others, it is set to end soon.
In areas where owners have not accepted the mutual purchase scheme, acquisition procedures have been initiated at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate level. First notifications for acquisition were issued earlier, allowing a 60-day window for objections. Subsequent steps are expected to be completed in the near future.
Under existing guidelines, landowners will receive compensation at twice the collectorate rate. Three separate acquisition notifications have been issued, covering small plots-some spanning a few hectares across various khasras (land parcels). Government-owned lands involved are anticipated to be easier to acquire. Final surveys are to be undertaken soon.
Landowners who have already agreed are poised to benefit swiftly through prompt compensation, while the fallback SDM route ensures progress even where consent has yet to be given. As objection windows close and surveys move ahead, the project appears increasingly well positioned to proceed with minimal resistance, promising smoother development in the coming weeks.
