The operation involved multiple officials, police support, machinery, and labour, highlighting the city's commitment to curbing illegal developments.
In Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, the Anti-Encroachment Department of the NMMC took action against an unauthorised construction after the owner failed to comply with earlier notices. Acting on instructions from the Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Kailas Shinde, and under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr. Kailas Gaikwad, the department executed a demolition drive.
The targeted property, owned by Mr. Sandeep Janardhan Patil at Plot No. 25, Sector-5, had been served a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, earlier this year. The demolition was partially completed, and a penalty of INR 25,000 was imposed.
The operation was part of a planned demolition campaign in the Koparkhairane division and involved the active participation of Assistant Commissioner Bharat U. Dhande, Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre, other officials, staff, and a police contingent for security. Equipment deployed included four labourers, two electronic hammers, a pickup van, and a JCB machine.
The NMMC has stated that such anti-encroachment measures will continue with increased intensity to ensure compliance with municipal regulations and to discourage illegal constructions across the city.
By combining legal notices, monetary penalties, and field operations with proper manpower and machinery, the city is signalling strict action against violations. Officials have indicated that such interventions will remain rigorous, reinforcing municipal governance and protecting planned urban development. This effort underscores the city's commitment to maintaining lawful construction practices and orderly growth in its residential and commercial zones.
