Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation recently conducted a strict demolition drive against unauthorised construction in the Airoli area after the property owners failed to comply with official notices. Under the guidance of senior officials, the encroachment department removed constructions at two specific plots where building activity had continued despite prior legal directives. A total penalty of INR 50,000 was collected from the property owners. The operation involved dedicated municipal staff, labourers, and police support, signalling the administration's continued focus on curbing unauthorised developments within the city.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, acting through its encroachment department, executed a demolition drive in Airoli after the property owners did not respond to official notices. The action was carried out under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Kailas Shinde, and supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr. Kailas Gaikwad.

The operations targeted unauthorised constructions at B-86, SE-03, and J-26, SE-03, Airoli, initiated by Ratnaprabha Kadam and Madru Kupya Ragya. Notices had previously been served under Sections 53(1A) and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, requiring the owners to remove the structures themselves. However, construction activity continued, prompting municipal intervention.

The demolition drive was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Sunil Kathole, Assistant Commissioner and in-charge officer of the Airoli division. A total fine of INR 50,000 was imposed, collected as INR 25,000 from each property owner. The operation involved encroachment department officials, seven labourers, two breakers, one gas cutter, and police personnel to ensure smooth execution.

Officials emphasised that such enforcement drives would continue to address unauthorised construction within the municipal limits, maintaining compliance with city planning regulations.

By enforcing legal provisions and levying penalties, the authorities aim to uphold urban planning regulations and prevent further encroachments. The collaboration between municipal officers, field staff, and police ensured a swift and effective operation. The administration has indicated that similar measures will persist across the city, reinforcing the message that all property owners must adhere to legal building norms or face prompt and stringent enforcement.
