Synopsis

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) demolished and sealed 32 under-construction flats at Anamika Enclave in Sector 14. The structures had been raised without mandatory approvals, including building plan clearance, fire safety certification, and required fire escape provisions. The demolition was carried out by the enforcement wing of the civic body under the supervision of senior officials and with police support. Authorities said unauthorised buildings strain basic infrastructure and are often linked to illegal water and electricity connections.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) recently demolished and sealed 32 under-construction flats in Anamika Enclave, Sector 14. According to officials, the builders had not secured approval of the building plan from the MCG, had not obtained a no-objection certificate from the fire department, and had also failed to include fire escape doors in the design. These are mandatory requirements under building safety and planning rules.

Assistant Engineer RK Mongia, who was part of the enforcement drive, explained that illegal construction would not be permitted within MCG limits. He highlighted that projects built without proper clearance create multiple problems, such as putting pressure on civic services and leading to unauthorised electricity and water connections.

The operation was conducted by the enforcement team on the directions of the joint commissioner. The team comprised Mongia along with junior engineers Pradeep Sharma, Rohit, Ankit Kapoor, and Varun Vashisth. Heavy machinery was used to bring down the unauthorised portions of the building. The police were present during the demolition to ensure compliance with legal procedures and to maintain order at the site.

MCG officials stated that whenever they receive credible information about construction being carried out without building plan approval, immediate steps are taken to stop such work. They added that residents or developers seeking approvals need to apply through registered architects on the Haryana Online Building Plan Approval System (HOBPAS), which is the state's official clearance platform.

Councillors and residents in the city have previously voiced concerns about a rise in unauthorised buildings in various parts of Gurugram. The MCG has carried out several such demolition drives in the past few years, aiming to discourage illegal developments that bypass safety standards and planning rules. Officials stressed that regular action is necessary to ensure the city's infrastructure is not compromised by unapproved projects.
