The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently carried out anti-encroachment operations in Ghansoli and Koparkhairane after property owners and developers failed to comply with issued notices. Under the directives of senior civic officials, unauthorised structures were demolished with the assistance of machinery, labourers and police deployment. The action followed repeated violations where developers had continued construction without mandatory approvals despite warnings from the civic body.
The anti-encroachment department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation initiated demolition action in Ghansoli and Koparkhairane after property owners ignored official notices. The drive was conducted under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with additional commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and deputy commissioner (encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad supervising the proceedings.
In Ghansoli, the demolition targeted an unauthorised structure on House No. 166 at Rabale, Salvinagar. The property was owned by Ratan Rama Mhatre, with Rajendra Shankar Pawar as the developer, who had undertaken construction without prior approval from the civic body. Despite being instructed to remove the unauthorised work voluntarily, construction activity continued. As part of the operation, the corporation deployed five breakers, fifteen labourers and one gas cutter to dismantle the illegal construction. The demolition was carried out in the presence of assistant commissioner Uttam Kharat, junior engineer Pravin Vishe, CIDCO staff, municipal employees and a police unit.
In Koparkhairane, the civic body acted against another unauthorised structure behind Kukreja Ruby, Sector 12D, Ramnagar, Bonkode. The building, linked to Shalik Halliya Naik, had been served a notice in December last year under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. A partial demolition had been conducted earlier, but fresh action was taken in the past week. For this operation, nine labourers, three electronic hammers, one pickup van and two gas cutters were deployed. Assistant commissioner Bharat Dhandhe, junior engineer Chandrakant Dhotre, other civic officials and a police team were present during the demolition.
The NMMC confirmed that the encroachment department would continue such intensified drives against unauthorised constructions across its jurisdiction in the coming period.
With both police and civic staff deployed for smooth execution, officials indicated that similar operations would be stepped up in the future to ensure planned urban development and compliance with statutory regulations.
