The Union Government approved the development of the Mokama-Munger section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur high-speed corridor in Bihar, with an investment of INR 4,447.38 crore. The project, spanning 82.4 km, will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode. The approval was granted during a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Once completed, the corridor will enhance connectivity between key cities, including Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, Munger, and Bhagalpur.
The Union Government has provided clearance for the construction of the Mokama-Munger stretch of the Buxar-Bhagalpur high-speed corridor in Bihar earlier this week. The project will entail a total expenditure of INR 4,447.38 crore. The approval came during a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the 82.4 km section will be constructed using the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The corridor has been planned to pass through important regional towns, ensuring smoother connectivity for Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger, while extending access to Bhagalpur.
Officials indicated that the corridor will not only improve intra-state transport but also support regional trade, mobility, and economic growth by linking emerging and established urban centres in Bihar.
By linking towns such as Mokama, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, Munger, and Bhagalpur, the project aims to ease travel and commerce, ultimately supporting the state's economic prospects. Its execution under the Hybrid Annuity Mode is also expected to ensure timely delivery with a balance of public and private investment.
