Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has signed an agreement for a new 64-room brownfield hotel in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, under the Gateway brand. The project is being developed with Riaz Ahmad Panjra as a partner. The addition will raise IHCL's total count in the region to seven hotels, including one still under development. Positioned in one of Kashmir's most popular tourist towns, the upcoming hotel will feature a mix of leisure, wellness, and dining facilities. The move fits into IHCL's plan to expand in tourism-driven destinations across India.
Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has signed a 64-key brownfield hotel in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, under its Gateway brand. The announcement was made earlier this week as part of IHCL's ongoing plan to increase its presence in tourism-rich locations across the country.
The company explained that the decision to bring Gateway to Pahalgam is consistent with its strategy of entering high-potential markets that combine scenic value with a strong tourism base. IHCL's Executive Vice President of Real Estate and Development, Suma Venkatesh, noted that the project is being developed in partnership with Riaz Ahmad Panjra. She added that the choice of Pahalgam reflects the brand's interest in destinations that attract a variety of visitors, from leisure travellers to adventure seekers and nature tourists.
Once operational, the hotel will be equipped with a range of facilities designed to serve both individual travellers and small groups. These will include an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, a heated swimming pool, spa, gym, and a health club. In addition, the property will feature close to 2,000 square feet of banqueting space, making it suitable for private gatherings, events, and small business meetings.
With this signing, IHCL will expand its portfolio in Jammu and Kashmir to seven hotels, one of which is currently under development. The company already operates several properties in the region under its different brands, highlighting its long-term focus on strengthening its presence in areas with high tourism demand.
The announcement follows IHCL's broader expansion push, under which the company has been steadily adding new signings across India. The Pahalgam Gateway project reflects this wider effort, while also underlining the role of the state's hospitality sector in drawing both domestic and international tourists.
