Global energy company ENGIE has secured a 100 MW solar project in Barmer, Rajasthan, through an agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project, situated in one of India's regions with the highest solar irradiance, is expected to be commissioned in 2027. This addition strengthens ENGIE's growing portfolio in Rajasthan, which is nearing 1 GW.
The company confirmed the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with SECI for the Barmer solar photovoltaic (PV) project. Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager, India MD Renewables & Batteries India & South-East Asia, highlighted that the agreement reflects ENGIE's commitment to accelerating India's clean energy transition while providing reliable power to meet rising energy demand in the region.
ENGIE has a strong track record of executing landmark solar projects in India. The 200 MW Raghnesda Solar Power Plant in Gujarat, commissioned during the peak of the pandemic, continues to supply clean, dependable energy. In Andhra Pradesh, the 250 MW Kadapa project incorporates advanced inverter technology to enhance output. The 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan uses robotic, water-free cleaning systems, setting new standards for desert-based solar operations.
Currently, ENGIE operates 2.5 GW across 23 renewable energy projects in seven states in India. With over 300 MW in Rajasthan alone, the company is reinforcing its role in the state's clean energy transition. Its strategic focus includes leveraging digital technologies, maintaining operational sustainability, and ensuring community-focused energy solutions.
