SaveLIFE Foundation, in partnership with MSRDC and Mercedes-Benz India, conducted a detailed training workshop on work zone safety for engineers and field staff working on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The initiative, part of the Zero Fatality Corridor program, focused on practical and theoretical aspects of managing work zones, including traffic management, signage usage, and incident prevention. Attendees also gained hands-on experience in temporary traffic management. The workshop reinforced evidence-based safety practices to reduce road accidents, while acknowledging the expressway's role in improving connectivity and economic growth in Maharashtra.
SaveLIFE Foundation, together with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and Mercedes-Benz India Private Limited (MBIL), conducted a specialized training workshop for engineers and field personnel working on the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (SMM). The workshop, part of the ongoing Zero Fatality Corridor initiative, aimed to enhance safety in active construction and maintenance zones and reduce preventable road crash deaths.
The training covered both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations, focusing on planning and managing work zones to minimize accidents. Participants were trained on the correct use of signages, barriers, and traffic management strategies for active work zones. The workshop included case studies from the Samruddhi Mahamarg highlighting incident prevention measures and safe detour practices. Attendees also participated in interactive sessions and hands-on exercises to practice safe on-ground procedures. The training also incorporated modules on temporary traffic management, guiding engineers on setting up secure work zones during maintenance and construction activities. Certificates of participation were awarded to all engineers upon completion.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Atul Bhosale, Executive Engineer at MSRDC, along with the SaveLIFE Foundation team. The Samruddhi Mahamarg, a 701-kilometre-long Super Communication Expressway connecting Nagpur and Mumbai, passes through 10 districts, 26 talukas, and 392 villages, and is divided into 16 construction packages. The expressway has already reduced travel time between Nagpur and Mumbai from 16 hours to just 8 hours, significantly improving connectivity and boosting economic development in the state.
The Founder and CEO of SaveLIFE Foundation, Mr. Piyush Tewari, highlighted that work zones are inherently high-risk areas where even small mistakes can cause serious accidents. He mentioned that training engineers and contractors in evidence-based safety practices is an essential step toward achieving zero fatalities on Indian roads. He emphasized that the collaboration with MSRDC and Mercedes-Benz India demonstrates a shared commitment to making highways safer for everyone.
